We came across a pretty unique one this week — a six foot tall elm stump that had been left standing and needed to be cut down and fully ground out before it was finally a thing of the past. Six feet of stump is genuinely something to see, and walking up to a job like this you can't help but appreciate the sheer size of what you're dealing with. Before the stump grinder could even come into play we had to bring it down to a manageable level, cutting through that thick elm wood section by section until we had it low enough to the ground to finish the job the right way. Elm wood is tough and dense, and cutting through a stump of that diameter is a real workout that demands sharp equipment and a crew that knows what they're doing.
Once we had it cut down to ground level the stump grinder took over, and we ground that thing out completely until there was nothing left but fresh wood chips and flat, clean ground where a six foot elm stump used to stand. It's one of those jobs that is deeply satisfying to see through from start to finish — what started as an imposing, oversized stump that had probably been an eyesore for a long time ended up as nothing more than a memory by the time we packed up and headed out. The area was left clean and level and ready for whatever the homeowner wants to do with that space next.
If you've got a stubborn old stump — whether it's six feet tall or sitting right at ground level — Rooted Treeworks will come out and get it taken care of completely. No stump is too big or too gnarly for us to handle, and we love the satisfaction of leaving a clean, cleared space where an old stump used to be. Give us a call and let's knock it out!
